November 12 through 16, 2001

Atlantic City, NJ

The Reilly Group is offering the most innovative wetland training course in decades! We are constantly asked about quality wetland delineation training, and feel proud to be able to offer this unique wetland delineation course.  Our training is different from all the rest for a number of reasons:

  1. This course will be the same one taught to the regulators themselves.  The local, state and federal regulators tasked with reviewing your wetland delineations take a course similar to our course.  Learn wetland delineation with the regulatory framework necessary to satisfy your client's compliance during permitting.
  2. The course will dedicate an entire day each for plant and soil identification.  Unlike most other courses, this training course does not make any assumptions about your knowledge of wetland plants or ability to correctly identify hydric soils.  The instructors will include a certified soil scientist, a registered forester, and botanists who will be able to teach you to recognize hydric soils and wetland plants.  Additionally, you will be taught how to use the reference materials to identify wetland plants and hydric soils wherever you may be delineating a wetland.
  3. A low student-trainer ratio ensures quality training.  The course will be team taught by at least three instructors.  The class size is strictly regulated (register early to avoid disappointment).  Field work and plant identification training will be arranged so that each trainer will guide a small number of students during the training exercises.
  4. Students will actually complete a wetland delineation during their training.  Unlike other courses, students will visit field sites with increasing difficulty as the week progresses.  On Thursday of the course teams of students will delineate a wetland, submit their findings, and be critiqued on their submission.
  5. Students who successfully complete this training will be listed on The Reilly Group web site along with contact information.  Those students who successfully complete this course and pass the exam will be listed on a special page in this web site along with contact information.  Customers interested in pre-qualifying firms with trained wetland delineators, will now be able to pick from a list of trained wetland delineators at The Reilly Group web site, and contact you directly.  What other training course keeps on giving by providing the public with a listing of trained and competent wetland delineators?

The Training

This course is designed for the professional who seeks training in wetland delineation with a regulatory focus. The four and a half-day course will offer students the proper technical training needed when using the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual. Hydrology, plant and soils identification, field sampling techniques and exercises will be covered both in the classroom and in the field. Students who successfully complete this program will be awarded a "certificate of training" and be listed on this web site as trained in wetland delineation.

Monday and Tuesday

The class will be split in small groups to provide more hands-on training opportunities in both plant and soil identification. Monday and Tuesday will focus on how to ID plants using botanical manuals and and how to recognize  hydric soils using both the 1987 Corps of Engineers Manual and The National Technical Committee for Hydric Soils indicators.

Wednesday and Thursday

The instructors and students will focus on applying the technical applications in the field and performing actual wetland delineations of increasing difficulty.  Groups of trainees will team up to perform and justify their wetland delineation.

Friday

There will be an for review prior to an examination. As the exam is being graded, the class will hear a lecture on wetland functions and values and then receive their certificate of completion.

Materials

Students will receive a comprehensive set of materials including:
